Music 412/490 Optional Project I: Writing for Chamber Ensemble

The Argento Chamber Ensemble will be on campus on Thursday November 10, 2011 for a workshop and Tuesday, February 28, 2012 for a concert at the Beinecke. Students in Music 412/490 are invited to propose a work for this concert. To participate, you must submit the following materials on the indicated dates.

Dates and Deadlines

Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011

Turn in a one page written proposal for a 5-8 minute work for an ensemble of flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and piano (flute may double on piccolo and alto flute, clarinet on bass clarinet). Discuss the musical (technical), extra-musical, and affective aspects of your piece. What are your creative goals? How will you craft the work to draw on the unique capabilities of this ensemble and these performers?

Thursday, November 10, 2011: Workshop

During the workshop the ensemble will read through the music you have written and provide feedback.

Before writing your proposal, be sure to: browse the Aregnto Ensemble’s website (http://www.argentomusic.org). Then, carefully study the following works, all of which are in the ensemble’s repertoire.
