1. Plan An Extended Harmonic Structure

First and foremost, plan out an extended harmonic structure of either the Pizzicato – Whole-Half OR Pizzicato – Half-Whole notation file as prescribed below: 

  • a. In bars 1-4, extend the harmonic structure so that the source tetrachords (4 notes) are either pentachords (5 notes) or hexachords (6 notes), and source trichords & dyads are tetrachords (4 notes).
  • b. In bars 1-4, keep the bass pedal.
  • c. In bars 5-8, treat beats 3-6 as the bass line.
  • d. In bars 5-8, no chords.
  • e. In bars 9-12, treat beats 2 & 4 & 6 as the bass line.
  • f. In bars 9-12, on beats 2 & 4 & 6 extend the harmonic structure so that the source tetrachords (4 notes) are either pentachords (5 notes) or hexachords (6 notes), and source trichords & dyads are tetrachords (4 notes).
  • g. In bars 13-14, no chords or bass line.
  • h. In bar 15, bass line throughout the bar.
  • i. In bars 16-20, bass line on the upbeats throughout.
  • j. In bars 16-20, on the upbeats extend the harmonic structure so that the source tetrachords (4 notes) are either pentachords (5 notes) or hexachords (6 notes), and source trichords & dyads are tetrachords (4 notes).
  • k. In bar 21, score the tetrachords as either hexachords (6 notes) or septachords (7 notes).
